#61 FUTURE UNAVIODABLE ALLOY IN SHIPPING – 6061 ALUMINIUM ALLOY.

Image
In General, if you reduce 1 MT weight in Machinery space you can carry same amount of cargo. So, the Research and development works on this basic. Evolution of Metals made a key role in World War for the invention of new metals as per the industry need and requirements. In this Article we are going to discuss about the aluminium alloy, a light weight material already conquered bicycle and automobile industry. same we can expect in a couple of years in the shipping industry one the manufactures cost reduced by some alternate way of production. An Alloy is a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements to achieve improved material properties. The process of alloying involves adding specific metallic “alloying” elements into a base metal to give it distinct properties such as increased strength, corrosion resistance, conductivity, toughness, etc., or a desired combination of these traits. Aluminium metal and its alloys are implemented in most, if not all modern industrial proce

#60 Manned to AI Ships Era (iota/2) - Artificial intelligence controlled ships era

In 1980’s distinction between Weak AI (idea that machines could act as if they were intelligent) and Strong AI (machines that do so are actually consciously thinking)- overtime definition shifted to Strong to Human Level AI.  Turning Test: The test for machines which passed behavioral test. This leads to make many technologies based useful tools. Ethics of AI: AI is a powerful technology, we have moral obligations to use it well in a positive aspect such as improved medical diagnosis, medical discoveries, better prediction of extreme weather events, self-driving automated cars, crisis counseling, new fact checking, suicide prevention, measurement of fossil fuel emissions.  Recently, The Supreme Court of India and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming at facilitating the digital transformation of the Indian judiciary. Through this partnership, IIT Madras will utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technolog

#59 Manned to AI Ships Era (iota/1): Navigating the Future with Technological Waves

“Investing on Yourself is the best investment”. 2030 year going to be a massive change throughout the world in all the fields. Starts from pollution norms, recycling, IIOT etc. Technology developments will take over all industry in a prompt time. AI is the field of conceiving, designing and developing machines which should perform tasks that usually   requires human intelligence. AI is the art and science of developing machines running  on intelligent algorithms that make them capable of   thinking, acting and learning like human beings.  In lay-man language we are expecting a intelligent machines in the field of engineering and technology. Scanner and sensors types going to increase more like thermal, light, proximity, chemicals, barometric, speech, audio, image. Human Machine Interface to synchronization for commanding/operating the ship from shore requires. Education and training are required to meet AI and to with the emerging accomplishments, experts say that full artificial intel

#58 Navigating the Storm: Challenges and Strategies in Rough Seas

Image
Introduction: The vast expanse of the open sea is a realm of both beauty and peril. Sailors and mariners often find themselves facing the unpredictable forces of rough weather, a formidable challenge that tests their skills and courage. In this article, we will explore the impact of rough weathers in the sea and the strategies employed by seafarers to navigate safely through these turbulent conditions. Understanding Rough Weather at Sea: Rough weathers in the sea encompass a variety of challenging conditions, including storms, high waves, strong winds, and adverse currents. These elements can be particularly daunting for ships and vessels, posing risks to both crew and cargo. The dynamics of rough seas are influenced by factors such as atmospheric pressure, temperature gradients, and the geography of the waterbody. Challenges Faced by Seafarers: Violent Storms: Storms at sea can be intense and violent, with towering waves and ferocious winds. These conditions make navigation

#57 International Year Of Millets 2023

Image
To create domestic and global demand and to provide nutritional food to the people, Government of India had proposed to the United Nations for declaring 2023 as International Year of Millets (IYoM-2023). The proposal of India was supported by 72 countries and United Nation's General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as International Year of Millets on 5th March, 2021. Millets are the staple crops of the semiarid tropics, as other food crops cannot be cultivated in that terrain due to low rainfall and poor soil fertility. They also have higher nutrient content compared to major cereal crops and ensure food and nutrition security. Further, millets are tolerant to drought and other extreme weather conditions and hence are endemic to such geographies. “Millets are incredible ancestral crops with high nutritional value. Millets can play an important role and contribute to our collective efforts to empower smallholder farmers, achieve sustainable development, eliminate hunger, adapt to c

#56 Navigating the Waves: Unveiling the Marvels of Marine Ship Propellers

Image
Introduction: In the vast expanse of the world's oceans, where waves dance and currents weave intricate patterns, marine ship propellers emerge as unsung heroes, propelling vessels through the vast blue abyss. In this blog post, we'll dive into the fascinating world of marine ship propellers – the unsung engineering marvels that make maritime transportation possible. The Heart of Seafaring: Ship propellers serve as the beating heart of seafaring vessels, transforming mechanical power into forward thrust. Unlike their land-bound counterparts, marine propellers must contend with the challenges of water resistance, varying depths, and unpredictable currents. These essential components are a testament to human ingenuity, ensuring the efficient and reliable movement of ships across the globe. Design and Functionality: The design of marine ship propellers is a delicate balance between efficiency and durability. Propeller blades are meticulously crafted to optimize hydrodynamic

#55 LED LIGHTS IN MARINE INDUSTRY

LED makes its way across more and more in Marine/ Industrial applications. In today’s maritime industry, the term ‘Energy Efficiency’ is of sheer importance in all aspects of shipping operation. From main engine to cargo operations, energy efficiency has become the base to set up and plan any machinery or procedure. Electrical system being the most important network onboard ships, it is important for ship owners and operators to make their energy efficiency plans considering the same. Use of energy efficient LED lighting in place of conventional lamps and tube lights on ship, contributes to more savings and add up to its energy efficiency model. An incandescent globe (bulb) can provide a life span of 1000 hrs and a fluorescent lamp can be used up to 7500 hrs. However, far better performance can be achieved by LED lights which have lifespan of about 50,000 hours and 60% less energy consumption. Implementing this would not only reduce the maintenance hours but also bring down the operat
